a different kind of productive

I’ve always considered myself a fairly productive person. Sometimes it’s a fault, it’s true. I out productive my productiveness. That’s what I get for trying to be smart. Haha.

At one point in my life I was working a full-time job, a part-time job and going to graduate school full-time. Plus life. And that seemed like the height of my productiveness.

And now…now I’m thankful when the dish washer gets emptied or the wash gets folded and, at the end of the day, the house doesn’t look like a nuclear explosion went off. Now I’m glad to brush my teeth and get my hair washed and put on a pair of earrings that match.

Sometimes I look back on past seasons of productiveness and wish…and wonder. How did it come to this? How did come to this? And let’s be honest – this is just one, little baby I have. One, little five month old.

But then I realize that this season of my life is productive, just in much different ways. It may not feel like it sometimes, but it is. I’m getting things done – between the nursing and the diaper changing and the rocking and the silly song singing.

What really matters is: I’m getting the important things done. That’s really all that matters in any season – whether single or married, with children or without, working or going to school or both – that I’m getting the important things done. Like…

Cuddling my baby

Making dinner for my husband

Taking time for Bible study

Spending time with a good friend

Reaching out to someone who needs encouragement

Making the bed

Going for a good run at the lake
